La Liga Betting Tips and Predictions 2020/21

As far as this season’s La Liga betting tips are concerned, it is a strange one. Neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona are currently the force they once were. Both sides are ageing as, for Real, stalwarts like Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema begin to slow, while at Barca the end of the road finally appears in sight for perhaps their greatest player of all time Lionel Messi as he seeks to make a possibly bitter exit next year.

One bright spot for Barca had been the emergence of 18-year-old Ansu Fati. With his lightning pace, Fati burst on to the La Liga scene with five goals including one in El Clásico which made him the youngest scorer in the fixture this century. Such form also saw the teenager rewarded with a senior call up to the Spanish national side. Unfortunately for the player and his club, he has since undergone knee surgery that will cost him the next five months of his breakout La Liga season. And with Messi nowhere near the top of this season’s goalscoring charts, Barca simply don’t represent good value at La Liga betting odds of 23/10.

Gone already is Luis Suárez who has now pitched up at 3/1 shot Atletico Madrid to form a potentially explosive partnership with Diego Costa. This could be massive and Diego Simeone’s charges, not least the excellent Portuguese teenager Joao Felix, must believe that this season, in which the players have not enjoyed the mercy of a summer break/pre-season, could be the season in which the El Clásico dominance is finally shattered and that Atleti are in prime position to take glorious advantage.

Popular Bets for La Liga Betting

As one of the world’s biggest professional sporting competitions, La Liga betting is big business. There are many ways and markets to bet on Spain’s top level football tournament and we have suggested a few for you to try below.

Outright Winner La Liga Betting

Outright winner of La Liga betting is simply betting on one team to win the title, in this case Spain’s La Liga championship. It is an amazingly uncomplicated bet where you simply decide either before the season or during it which team will win the title. It is probably worth remembering that, as brilliant as the Spanish league is, it really isn’t the most competitive and is very dominated by , and, to a lesser extent, Atletico Madrid so bet wisely.

To Get Relegated La Liga Betting

With a bet such as this, punters are nominating a team or teams to have such a poor season that they finish in the bottom three positions and end up getting relegated. This is arguably harder to pick than the outright winner above but as is very often the case teams that have been recently promoted can struggle with a step up in class.

Best betting site for to Get Relegated Betting: Melbet

Golden Boot La Liga Betting

Golden boot betting is where punters pick a La Liga player that they believe will outscore all others and finish the season as the division’s top scorer. Famously, Spain has been the home of the game’s biggest names, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi, who very often outscore all others and, while players move on to other clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona will often possess the best players including strikers.

Best betting site for Golden Boot Betting: BetVictor

Player of the Year La Liga Betting

Just like top scorer betting, backing the player that will be elected the best player of that season by his fellow peers is an extremely easy to understand wager. While the wager may be easy to understand, picking a winning player is a touch harder even in a league with so many top international superstars.

Tournament Structure for La Liga

The format for is no different to any other major football league. Organised by the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Professional, the league comprises 20 teams, each of which must play all of the others twice in a season, once at home and also away. Such a format creates 38 matches for each of the teams to contest in a single La Liga campaign which lasts from August to May in unison with the other major European leagues, the English Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A.

As with those leagues just mentioned, La Liga is awarded four participants into Europe’s premier soccer competition the European Champions League. There are also three relegation spots at the other end of the table reserved by the three lowest teams in the table when the games have been completed. League positions are determined by points tallies. During the season games are awarded three points for a win, one for a draw and zero for a defeat.

History of La Liga

In 1929, following more than a year of discussions, 10 teams eventually kicked off the inaugural Primera División. Spain’s Copa Del Rey was already in existence and its previous winners, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Getxo, and Real Unión, were all invited to participate. Copa del Rey runners-up Racing de Santander were also allowed to play and were joined by Atlético Madrid, Real Betis and Espanyol.

That first year, it was Barcelona that won the league and, while Real Madrid had to wait until 1932, it was actually the Basque side Athletic Bilbao that dominated the league early on, winning four titles and coming second twice. Civil war and politics interrupted the competition’s progress and in 1937 teams from Spain that weren’t the big Madrid sides, competed in the Mediterranean League which was won by Barcelona, a title which the Catalans have since appealed to the Royal Spanish Football Federation to be recognised as a Liga Liga title.

Upon the league’s resumption, Barcelona began to develop as one of the dominant teams in the league, winning their second La Liga crown in 1945 before claiming back to back wins in 1948 and 1949. But, by the decade that was to follow, their dominance was threatened by a familiar foe as one of sports all-time great rivalries was born.

The 1950s was the era that Real Madrid really came to prominence, aided, it must be said, by the naturalisation of foreign born players. In particular Alfredo Di Stéfano and Ferenc Puskás, the latter forming part of the that was briefly the world’s best international side. As well as scooping four La Liga wins, the club also racked in the first of five European Cups, today’s Champions League, that were held from 1955 onwards. From then until now, Real Madrid have been one of the dominant forces of Spanish domestic football. But, by the 1980’s Barca began to bite back as La Liga began to construct another of the greatest football teams the game has ever seen.

While Basque Clubs Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao took the first four titles of the 1980’s between them, Real Madrid, under the charge of Emilio Butragueño and Hugo Sanchez, won five more La Liga titles in a row from 1986-1990. For the record, it was Barca, under English coach who took the crown in 1985. Former Barca star and Holland legend Johan Cruyff, who had been Barca’s greatest ever player until then, returned as manager in 1988 with the possession-based, Total Football philosophy that had served him so well at Ajax to create his Dream Team.

Two titles in 11 years has been Barca’s record prior to Cruyff’s second coming but the groundwork he laid at the club was to set a legacy, not just for Barcelona, but for the wider football community as a whole and one that still ripples today, not least at Manchester City under the charge of Cruyff protégé Pep Guardiola City’s coach today.

Guardiola, along with many other La Masia graduates was joined in the team by international stars to become one of football’s legendary teams winning 11 trophies in eight years. Throughout the 90’s the Madrid teams, Real in particular, would contest with Barca for the Primera División, a competition that Javier Irureta’s Deportivo La Coruña won once and Valencia won twice in the early noughties under Rafael Benitez. Since Valencia’s win in 2005, the dominance of Spain’s big two, Real Madrid and Barcelona, has only been breached once, by Atletico Madrid in 2014.

CricketBettingAdvice Final Say

La Liga is the second richest football league in the world and, after the Premier League, NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL, the sixth wealthiest professional sport league on the planet also. In short, La Liga is an epic monster of a football tournament that, more often than not, is also the home to the world’s leading players, drawn as they are to the glamour of Spain’s big two, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Those two have become the dominant pair in Spain’s top tier football División but, even so, La Liga betting markets are still thriving and rightly so too.
